Lychnis ‘Cherry Bubbles’

April is the perfect time to refresh borders and breathe new life into the garden – and few plants do it with quite as much flair as Lychnis viscaria ‘Cherry Bubbles’.

This cheery perennial is a riot of rich cherry-pink flowers that bubble up from compact clumps of fresh green foliage, creating movement, colour, and charm just when your garden is gathering pace for the season ahead.

We’re highlighting it as our ‘Plant of the Month‘ not just for its eye-catching good looks, but because it’s wonderfully reliable, low maintenance, and easy for any gardener to grow and enjoy.

‘Cherry Bubbles’ bursts into bloom in late spring and keeps flowering well into the summer months, smothering itself in dazzling, bubble-like blossoms that sit proudly on upright stems. The vivid pink shades practically glow in the sunlight, and they bring a real sense of vibrancy to mixed borders or feature beds.

It’s a fantastic team player too – pair it with cool-toned companions like lavender, nepeta, or artemisia and you’ll have a stunning colour contrast that looks natural and balanced.

Reaching a modest height that suits the mid-border position beautifully, it adds both structure and visual energy without overwhelming the space.

Be sure to cut back hard after the first wave of flowering in the summer, in order to possibly see a second flurry of blooms in early autumn.

Better still, this is a variety that practically takes care of itself. Once settled in a sunny or lightly shaded spot with free-draining soil, it needs very little attention – just a quick deadhead now and then to keep those flowers coming.

Hardy, compact, and pollinator-friendly, ‘Cherry Bubbles’ is the kind of plant that rewards you with maximum impact for minimal effort.
