Rose ‘Chandos Beauty’
There’s something magical about stepping out into the garden on a warm July day and being greeted by the scent of roses. This month, we’ve chosen one of the very best roses in the YouGarden range to be our July ‘Plant of the Month’, the beautifully fragrant Rose ‘Chandos Beauty’.
It’s a real head-turner and one we’re confident will become a firm favourite with gardeners who love timeless charm and generous repeat flowering.
This variety is as much about substance as it is style. It’s a Hybrid Tea rose, which means you get those classic, high-centred blooms with plenty of petals, borne on strong upright stems that are perfect for cutting.
The flowers themselves? Big, soft champagne-apricot in colour, and carried in abundance throughout summer and into autumn. And the scent… wow! It’s a heady mix of spice and fruit that quite honestly deserves its own fan club.
Whether you’re planting it in a border, showcasing it in a large patio pot, or gifting it to someone special, ‘Chandos Beauty’ is one of those roses that delivers again and again. And the best bit? It’s already potted and ready to plant, so you can enjoy a flying start.
A Showstopper Rose That Ticks All the Boxes – Scent, Looks and Awards to Match
A rose that gives you everything, luxurious blooms, knockout scent, repeat flowering, and reliability. There’s a reason it’s picked up both the RHS Award of Garden Merit and the UK Rose Growers’ Gold Standard. This isn’t just a pretty face, it’s a rose that’s proven its worth in real gardens, season after season.
The large, high-centred flowers unfurl in a soft, creamy apricot blush. Elegant, timeless, and especially beautiful when the light catches them at golden hour. Their perfume is incredible too, rich, spicy, and fruity, and is the sort of scent that invites you to stop and breathe it in every time you pass.
Each bloom stands proudly on a strong stem, which makes it ideal for cutting and bringing indoors, where it continues to scent the room beautifully.
‘Chandos Beauty’ is well-behaved in the garden too. It reaches around 1 metre tall, with a spread of 60cm, and performs just as well in a smart patio container as it does in a border.
It’s tough, healthy, and repeat flowers from June right into late autumn with a little deadheading.
Why You Need Roses in Your Summer Garden
Roses have long been a British garden staple, and for good reason. They bring structure, scent and stunning colour in a way no other plant can quite match.
Summer-flowering roses like ‘Chandos Beauty’ are the backbone of beds and borders, not to mention perfect for pots where space is tight. And with so many modern varieties bred for disease resistance and repeat flowering, they’re much easier to care for than many people think.
A well-grown rose brings a sense of romance, tradition and sheer joy to any garden. And once you’ve grown one, you’ll want more. Trust us!
You’ve purchased your potted ‘Chandos Beauty’ Rose… Here’s how to plant and grow it!
Unpack and water: On arrival, unpack the rose from the packaging and stand it in a tray of water for an hour to rehydrate the rootball.
Planting in the garden: Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the pot. Add rose compost or well-rotted manure, tease out the roots, and plant at the same depth as the pot. Firm in and water well.
But, if you’d rather plant in a container, ensure you use a large one that’s at least 40cm diameter, with drainage holes. Fill with Premium Professional Compost and plant at the same depth as the nursery pot. Water thoroughly.
Watering and feeding: Water regularly, especially in dry spells. Feed every few weeks in summer with a rose fertiliser to promote more blooms.
Deadheading and pruning: Remove faded flowers to encourage more buds. In February, prune by a third to a healthy outward-facing bud to shape and invigorate growth.
Winter care: This hardy variety usually needs no extra protection. Move container-grown plants to a sheltered spot in the garden during the winter months.
